Extra Classes


This class covers the art of film-making and film appreciation. Student getting to try their hand at writing, directing and producing their own short film. The emphasis of the course is on film production with the students writing, acting, producing and directing their own scripts. Students will get to write and develop their own screenplays in a creative and supportive environment. Some scripts will then be chosen to be made into short films in Term 2. Student’s also take part in a script writing competition in Feis Maitiu in Term 3 and learn how to self tape as part of the acting to camera module.

Creative Writing

Experience first-hand the development of original and adapted work for stage and screen. Turn stories, poems and historical events into performance pieces. Improvise and write original poetry, stories, screenplays, plays and more.

Students in the past have devised works based around social justice issues including a performance entitled “The Magdalene Women” based on the harrowing real life events of the Magdalene Laundries.

In 2016, the youth theatre devised a performance called ‘Grey Brick Upon Brick’ for RTE’s 1916 Commemorations in City Hall which can be watched here.

Public Speaking and Communication Skills

This course covers voice theory and how to have a clear and confident voice. This course is suitable for individuals who want to gain the necessary skills to speak in front of others during events such as oral exams, wedding speeches, board room presentations or a PhD Viva Voce. The class covers Public speaking, presentation, and communication skills as well as vocal characterisation for podcast and voice-over work.

Option to pursue a diploma in communication skills.

Musical Theatre

This class involves singing, dancing and acting with performance pieces and songs from Musicals.

Annual musical theatre group performances, participation in Feis Maitiu Musical Theatre and option to take Musical Theatre grade exams from Trinity College London.
