Teen Youth Theatre
A supportive space for young theatre makers
We’re excited to be launching our Youth Theatre for teens, a new series of collaborative weekly workshops where participants can find their voice and develop their theatre skills! Our workshops offer a dynamic approach to learning about theatre making, with each session bringing something new and engaging.
Our Youth Theatre is a space for exploration and growth, fostering a supportive community where young performers can thrive. Join us on this exciting new journey!
What happens at a Youth Theatre workshop?
Each week, participants will explore different aspects of theatre, including movement, voice, and improvisation. We will introduce various theatre practitioners and their methods, providing a rich foundation in performance techniques. We’ll dive into scenes and duologues from a range of plays, allowing students to experiment with diverse characters and styles.
In addition to performance exercises, we’ll explore aspects of technical theatre and design, allowing students to explore their interests in directing, set design, lighting, costume, marketing and more.
Our workshops are not only about learning; they’re also about collaboration and creativity. As we progress through the term, we’ll gather feedback from our young members to tailor future sessions based on their interests and passions.
What are the benefits of joining a Youth Theatre?
According to the CentreStage+20 report completed by Youth Theatre Ireland, the national development organisation for youth theatre, the artistic and social benefits of being part of a Youth Theatre for teens include:
- Increased levels of confidence and self-esteem
- A sense of belonging
- Increased self-discipline and commitment
- A sense of personal and group achievement
- A sense of escape and relaxation
- Increased appreciation of theatre and the arts
- Progression to third-level drama and theatre training and professional theatre
How is Youth Theatre different from the Speech, Drama and Acting classes?
In our weekly Speech, Drama and Acting classes, we prepare for grade exams and rehearse and perform a production in a professional theatre. Our Youth Theatre for teens is more of a student-lead space for exploration and finding your voice. The two compliment each other and give participants a good balance of discipline and commitment, with an ability take risks and be spontaneous, all within a safe environment.

When and where is it on?
Youth Theatre for teens will take place in Cuisle Arts Centre in St. Louis High School, Rathmines. The first term will start on Thursday 30th January 2025.
For the first term, each 2 hour workshop is completely free, and will cost €10 per class thereafter. Enrolment is on a per-term basis, and fees are paid per term. You can book your place on our website here.

Our Youth Theatre facilitator’s personal testimonial:
“Youth Theatre offered me a place where I could be myself. It was a safe environment where I could develop creatively while also having the best time with the most amazing people. For the first time I felt as though my ideas were not only heard but welcomed and encouraged. This is something that as a teenager you don’t often experience. In most things you are participating in, at this time in your life, there is a rigid structure. Which of course can be necessary but also can feel restrictive. Particularly for those of us with creative minds. Youth Theatre is a place where likeminded people can come together and support each other through fun, play, and performance and be supported to take their own creative risks. Youth Theatre was the first place that I felt like ‘I could do this’, and more importantly I felt comfortable enough to express that. I can confidently say that without a doubt, I would not be who I am today both as a performer and a person, without participating in youth theatre.”
